Job Summary

The Assistant / Deputy General Manager – Freight plays a pivotal role in overseeing and optimizing the freight operations of the organization. This position is responsible for managing end-to-end logistics, ensuring efficient transportation of goods, and driving strategic initiatives to enhance service delivery and cost-effectiveness. The role demands strong leadership, operational expertise, and a deep understanding of freight management across various modes of transport.

Job Responsibilities/Key Tasks(External)

Freight Operations Management

  • Oversee daily freight activities across air, sea, and land transport modes.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.
  • Monitor shipment schedules and resolve operational bottlenecks.

Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Develop and implement freight strategies to optimize logistics performance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.

. Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with freight forwarders, carriers, and third-party logistics providers.
  • Negotiate contracts and service level agreements.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to align freight operations with business needs.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to international and local freight regulations.
  • Implement safety and risk mitigation protocols.
  • Conduct audits and reviews to maintain operational integrity.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for freight operations.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare reports for senior management on freight performance and cost analysis.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and mentor freight operations staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support career development.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability

Others

  • Undertake any assigned projects / duties directed by Management(if any)

Job Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of SAP/ warehouse management systems (WMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems, and modern supply chain technologies, including AI applications.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations and best practices.
  • Expertise in financial management, budgeting, and strategic planning
  • Excellent analytical, strategic, and problem-solving abilities for complex business environments.
  • Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Adaptability and ability to thrive in a constantly evolving business context and cultural nuances. 
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex logistics projects.

Professional Qualifications & Relevant Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in freight or logistics, warehousing, or supply chain management, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role with full P&L responsibility.
  • Proficient in use of MS Office Applications / Microsoft Power Platform Applications
  • Strong knowledge of international and domestic freight operations, including air, sea, and land transport.
  • Proficiency in logistics software and ERP systems.
